Behind every diagnosis lies a unique story, filled with questions, emotions and resilience.
*Me and My Cancer* traces the journey of Sarah, a patient facing the disease. Through sensitive and accessible illustrations, the booklet realistically recounts the challenges she has faced, from the moment she received her diagnosis through to the various stages of her treatment.
Inspired by the account of a real patient, this story highlights experiences shared by many people affected by cancer. It offers a compassionate approach that allows this sometimes difficult subject to be addressed with simplicity, sincerity and a touch of humour.
Sarah’s journey through cancer
Like many patients, Sarah faces a lack of understanding and uncertainty at the time of her diagnosis. Medical terminology, treatment decisions and the changes imposed by the illness can seem particularly overwhelming.
- As the pages turn, the reader discovers the different stages of her journey:
- understanding a diagnosis when medical terms seem complex;
- coping with the emotions that accompany the diagnosis and treatment of the illness;
- adopting new habits to maintain her well-being in everyday life;
- learning to accept help from those around her.
Through this story, the booklet illustrates just how unique every patient’s journey is, whilst highlighting universal experiences with which many people can identify.
Working together to support patients
Through this initiative, carried out in partnership with Marine Illustrations, Vygon aims to contribute to a better understanding of the experiences of patients and to recognise the value of those who support them every day.
Because behind every patient’s journey there are women, men, families and dedicated carers, we hope that this booklet will inform, support and raise awareness amongst a wide audience.
